ANNOUNCEMENT!

The Garden of Joy is now a 4-H Club!  Three Board Members, and a fourth interested party, did the preliminary work at the 4-H Headquarters in Freehold, then completed the necessary training on February 4th.

That means we are now part of a large, well-established group, affiliated with Rutgers University, wth national and international links.

In March we expect to begin welcoming children into our 2 clubs: one on the eastside, and one on the westside.  We are also actively seeking children to join our clubs, where they can learn enjoyable life skills, free of charge.

ON GOING COURSES

In December, we had a menu development class at the West Side Community Center, with a group of eager, bright-eyed participants!

Thoroughly disregarding cries for the usual fried battered chicken, limp collard greens and potato salad, we developed together a  healthier menu that includes:

  • roasted chicken marinated with fresh herbs
  • lightly steamed garden vegetables
  • multi-colored tosses salad with our own vinaigrette
  • steamed corn
  • fresh fruit dipped in melted chocolate for dessert

This delicious menu will be prepared and cooked with the help of the children, and served at the West Side community Center in the very near future.

Also, delighting in the active interest of one of the children, I recommended him to be an intern at a popular eastside restaurant.
