Our Missison

children at the Garden of JoyWe are committed to sharing the joys of nature and the benefits of gardening to children.  It has been proven that children that get involved with gardening projects, do better in school, learn more about discipline, responsibility and leadership, and have their horizons greatly widened.  By linking gardening to botany, nutrition, environmental care and career possibilities, we hope to produce healthier, more active and more mentally stimulated children.

It is truly a pleasure to witness the effect the Garden of Joy project is having on our youth program participants. Ms. Pat Betty and assistants have totally engaged the children in the process (from planting to harvest). Gardening has long been a favored activity of the elder residents of Dewitt Avenue, but to see the childrens' excitement is heart warming.

I am absolutely thrilled at the effort and results of the Garden of Joy program. What a gift to our inner city children - to be able to learn to plant, tend and help something grow.
