About Us
The Garden of Joy (a division of HANDS TO HELP INC., a not-for-profit company organized under 501(c)3 of the IRS rules) was started specifically to help meet some of the needs of the poor or disadvantaged in inner city areas. Needs such as nutritional enhancement and educational enrichment for inner city school children and their community. We started our first Garden of Joy on Trinity Church's property in Asbury Park in 2007. This year, we have an additional 2 Gardens in Asbury: 715 Cookman Ave, and Springwood Ave/corner DeWitt.
The Garden of Joy is very fortunate in having the commitment of a wide range of wonderful people in a wide variety of fields, sitting on our Board of Directors and Advisory Board: Patricia Betty, LMT, Shore Spa to Go; Mindi Arcoleo, Ocean Wholesale Nursery; Lisa Bagwell; Maere Forbes; Shari Kaplan; Jacqueline Klosek; Linda Phillips; Marilyn Schlossbach, Langosta Lounge; Terry Reidy, City Manager; Amy Quinn, Esqs. Community Health Law; Fr. David Stout, Trinity Church.
Robert and Mindi Arcoleo; George Hansel; Tom Pivinski; Main Ave. Galleria; Virago Music; Eleanor Mack; Environment & Shade Tree Commission; Hazel Samuels; Sean & Don Hollingsworth; Aunt Bea's; Jersey Fresh; Steven Froias; Anna Laboda; Virginia Kryzanowski & Ellen Williams; Tom Ruff, Asbury Media and Santi Arana, Michelle Knapik; Susan Menahem.
We really appreciate all you are doing and have done for us!
We have wonderful individuals and organizations committed to helping the Garden of Joy succeed. Individuals volunteer their time in the Garden, Fr. David in being our most loyal booster, Mindi in presenting us with plants, Eleanor, Linda in hefting their shovels, George (who swears he hates children) steering us to invaluable networking opportunities, Joe, Lisa and all of our many wonderful new volunteers, and all the children so eager to work in the Gardens, they look like little butterflies flitting around!
Then, we have the organizations partnering with us: Environment & Shade Tree Commission, Trinity Church; Rutgers cooperative Extension of Monmouth county-4H Youth Development; 180 Turning Lives Around; Langosta Lounge Restaurant; Main Avenue Galleria; Ocean Wholesale Nursery; The Cancer Collective; Head Start; a number of Asbury Park schools; St. Uriel's; Children & Family Services (Long Branch); ArtsCap; MODC; We're in Cahoots; Asbury Park Sustainability Committee, and a growing list of organizations waiting to get involved.
